Sequim loses again in first round playoff game
Saturday, November 10
For the second year in a row, the Sequim Wolves make the playoffs, only to see their season end in the first round.
Sequim’s string of wins, which got rolling after a soft start to the season, finally snapped in Olympia Friday night as the Wolves lost to the Tumwater T-Birds 22-20 on a last minute field goal.
Second-ranked Tumwater was 11-0 coming into the game and hasn’t lost a home playoff contest in over a decade.
And on a night when the offense just wasn’t clicking, the Wolves were forced to use a fourth quarter 57-yard play by receiver Kincaid Nichols with just over 3-minutes left to move ahead 20-19. That’s when Tumwater managed a late drive to get inside the 30 for the field goal with just over half-a-minute remaining.
The win allows the Thunderbirds to advance to the quarterfinals in the state 2A football championships, while the Wolves go home. The disappointing loss was similar to last year, when the Wolves battled their way into the playoffs only to loss to the powerhouse Lynden Lions.
Sequim finishes the year at 8-4, with it another Olympic League 2A trophy on the shelf.
